Who can apply? 

Any underrepresented student studying STEM at Santa Barbara City College or Allan Hancock

What would I be doing? 

Each student will have the opportunity to work with managing a project and launching a rocket.

How long is the engineer competition? 

The event will run from 8am to 5pm.

Will it be team based? 

As professionals in industry or in any laboratory, teamwork is essential to the success of any project. In this competition you will work in teams.

Will I have a mentor? 

Each team will have at least one professional engineer or STEM professional. 

Do I need to bring food? 

Breakfast and Lunch will be provided as well as light refreshments

Will transportation be provided? 

Transportation will not be provided. You may also coordinate with yours school's MESA program

Are there prizes? 

Winners will be announced at the end of the competition and will receive recognition.  The winners of the competition will also be immortalized on our official Four Ingenieros Competition plaque.

What skills are needed? 

We welcome all skill levels. Our main objective is to expose more students into STEM, therefore fundamentals of programming is desired but it is not a requirement.

Is there limited space? 

Due to budget constraints we are limited to  40 total spots.

How will students be selected?

Students will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • first generation college student
  • parents with little or no education
  • students who are part of a minority group
  • students pursing a STEM degree
